Week 3 of Advent: Community as Home

I love that at the start of every Native Land Podcast episode begins with an enthusiastic and joyful exhortation, “Welcome home, y’all!” by co-hosts Angela Rye (shoutout to my bestie!!), Tiffany Cross and Andrew Gillam. It's a warm welcome to remind the community of listeners that they are in a safe space where their views, thoughts, and perspectives will be listened to and centered. It’s a ritual welcoming calling all us listeners together and into relationship with the hosts.

Home is not always a place; sometimes it’s a person, a community, or a way of being with yourself.
— Cole Arthur Riley, This Here Flesh

On this third Sunday of Advent, known as Gaudette Sunday, we traditionally celebrate joy. It is with joyful anticipation that we lean into the coming celebration of Christ. This is in part why the theme of ‘Community as Home’ this week feels so right. You may have noticed some of the HBCU imagery our graphics this Advent. These epic celebrations honor community of the past, present and future in profound ways. They honor shared identity but also spread joy and inclusivity to all.

As we move closer to Christ’s birth, may you experience the tantalizing drumline calling you to attention and the joy of community.

Welcome home, y’all.
