It is lonesome, yes. For we are the last of the loud.

Nevertheless, live.
Conduct your blooming in the noise and whip of the whirlwind.

-Gwendolyn Brooks, In the Mecca

It’s the start of Advent—a sacred season of expectant waiting and preparation. It's also the release of While We Wait..., a guide to support reflection and colorful contemplation through this time.

Two weeks ago, I was on the phone catching up with my dear friend Kimberly Goode. While reflecting on the exhausting 'you-can't-make-this-up' version of events that has been 2020, we committed to creating something that centered Christ and reflected Black experiences that might be a small offering to our community; a little bloom for all the noise and whip.

The project goals in our Google doc were things like:
1) Encourage people (Black women, especially) as this epic year comes to a close.
2) Create something Christ-centered that reflects Black culture and decenters whiteness.
3) Offer opportunities for contemplation and growth in the liminal space we are all moving through.

Kim and I hope it blesses you and can be a companion for you as we enter into this intentional season. Let us know what you think and what comes up for you on the journey. We'll be right there on the path with you!

With gratitude for each of you,

Leonetta
